After completing the Initial Setup, we'll need to know a bit more about what keywords you'd like us to track for your new campaign.
This article will guide you through completing the keyword targeting setup for a new campaign. By default, we'll automatically track how your site ranks for search queries involving your business name, but we recommend adding at least 3-5 additional keywords to monitor.
Choose a Target Location
The first step to beginning your keyword research is to choose your target location. Generally, we recommend choosing the location where the majority of your business is conducted. For example, if your business is located in Palatine, IL (a Northwest suburb of Chicago), but your customers all reside in the city of Chicago proper, you should choose Chicago as your target location. This helps us provide more accurate keyword ranking data and allows us to include localized rankings in our Keyword Ranking report.
If you'd like to track national rankings, feel free to leave the target location blank.
View Suggested Keywords
Once you've entered your target location, you'll notice that a list of suggest keywords populates below. We provide you with a variety of metrics to help you decide which keywords you'd like to track.
Searches: the number of times the keyword was searched last month on search engines
Position: your current position or rank for the keyword on search engines
Competition: a score from 0.0 to 10.0 that represents the level of competition for the keyword (10.0 being the highest level of competition and thus the most difficult to achieve first page rankings)
Score: a score from 0.0 to 10.0 that takes into account the average number of monthly searches, your site's current positioning, and your competition to help you understand how likely you are to achieve first page rankings
Check off which keywords you would like to track and they will automatically be added to your chosen keywords list. If you don't see any suggested keywords that you like, try changing your business categories. Or you can always add your own keyword lists as well!
Add Your Own Keyword List
If you've already performed your own keyword research, you can add terms to monitor by typing them into the box and then clicking Add Keyword Not Suggested. Each keyword should be separated by either a comma or a line break.
Review Chosen Keywords
Once you're satisfied with your chosen keyword list, you'll want to make sure you choose a primary keyword by checking the box on the right-hand side of the list. Your primary keyword will be used in various reports we will provide you, so be sure to choose carefully!
Once the keyword targeting setup has been completed, you should be directed to the next page where you'll be able to connect your social profiles to the platform.
